PNG images with transparency compress differently than JPGs (PNG is lossless by nature, so size reduction is more limited compared to JPG's adjustable lossy compression). For maximum size reduction of a photo where transparency isn't needed, converting to JPG first (see Image Converter) often gives smaller files.
